COMMUNITY EVENT LISTING
No cost to attend | Capacity: 30 people | Masks not required
Nichos are iconic to Mesoamerican culture, though they originated as a popular adaptation of the Roman Catholic retablo tradition of painting patron saints on wood or tin. Within each box, there is a key object or central figure for whose honor or memory the Nicho has been created. Over time, nichos have become interwoven with Mesoamerican artist communities. In this workshop, learn about Mesoamerican LGBT+ Community icons and theme your handmade nicho either around community members you look up to, artists, storytellers, poets, family, or anyone you adore and want to honor.
Participants are asked to please bring printed photos of loved ones or pre-preprinted images of community icons they admire and want to honor.
